Sake: Switzerland’s new gourmet beverage
Sake (nihonshu 日本酒) is Japan’s alcoholic national drink having a long history deeply embedded into Japanese culture and the people’s soul.
However, as often mistakenly claimed Sake is neither a rice wine nor a rice liquor.
Sake is a brewed respectively fermented and not a vinified or distilled alcoholic beverage that has, other than wine, much less acid but much more amino acids, which in turn are essential for the perception of Umami, one of the five basic tastes, as well as for the pairing with all different kinds of food.
Moreover, Premium Sake is gluten and sulfite free and in most cases also vegan!
